Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Retail - written to industry standards
The EU legislation, HACCP, was adopted by the Uk in 2006. This necessitated a revision and
updating of the UK food training. The new standards demanded that this award be divided into
Manufacturing, Catering and Retail to reflect the specific food safety challenges of the differing
sectors.
Food safety training level 2 for Retail is currently the only on-line version of this course, which
links directly to UK awarding body City and Guilds and provides you with your certificate, directly from
your PC without the inconvenience of travelling to a registered centre. This saves time and
money.
The course is divided into 5 lessons:
- The importance of food safety.
- Personal hygiene.
- Safe cleaning and use of chemicals.
- Food safety hazards.
- Temperature control and safe food storage.
By its very nature, a level 2 course is complex and has a comprehensive learning content. We therefore will allow users to ‘dip’ in and out of the learning content until they are thoroughly happy that they have understood the learning.
We deliver training to Big Brand Media, ITV for Britain’s Best Dish.

By its very nature, a level 2 course is complex and has a comprehensive learning content. We
therefore will allow users to ‘dip’ in and out of the learning content until they are thoroughly
happy that they have understood the learning. At that stage they can then opt to take the online
test.
The Test
The test follows the standards. It has a 30 multi-choice question range (from a variable bank of 90 questions) of which the candidates must achieve 20 correct answers to obtain a certificate.
The Certificate
The candidate will fill in a registration form which will be automatically sent to City and Guilds, and when the paper has been electronically marked, the results will be recorded. The candidate has the option to print out their marked paper. The successful candidate can instantly print their certificate. This is the simplest, most convenient way to achieve compliance.
